Glossary
Every term that appears anywhere in Scout, defined in plain English. Use this as a quick reference when something in the dashboard doesn't ring a bell.
- AI Audit Agent
- A Premium-only feature that crawls your live website, sends the data to Claude, and returns prioritised technical recommendations specifically for AI crawlers.
- AI Response
- One full answer collected from one AI engine for one prompt. Every scan produces (prompts × 3) AI responses.
- Brand Mention
- An AI response in which your brand name appears anywhere in the text.
- Brand Presence Breakdown
- The donut chart that splits prompts into Recommended / Mentioned / Absent.
- Citation
- A URL the AI engine quoted as a source for its answer. Most common in Perplexity responses.
- Cited Pages
- Dashboard view listing every individual URL cited across your scans.
- Cited Domains
- Same data as Cited Pages, rolled up to the website level.
- Competitor Reasons
- The phrase the AI used when explaining why it recommended a competitor. Extracted automatically by the analysis pass.
- Mention Rate
- The fraction of prompts where your brand was mentioned in any of the AI responses. Worth 30 of the 100 Visibility Score points.
- Optimize Hub
- The "what should I do?" page in Scout. Splits actions across 5 channels: Content, Technical, Citations, Reddit, LinkedIn.
- Position Rank
- Where in the AI answer your brand appeared (1 = first mentioned). Used to compute Position Score.
- Position Score
- The weighted average of
1/position_rankacross all your mentions. Worth 25 points. - Prompt
- A single buyer question that Scout fires at all three AI engines on every scan.
- Recommendation Rate
- The fraction of mentions where the AI actively recommended your brand. Worth 30 points.
- Scan
- One full pass of every prompt against every AI engine. Triggered manually or by the daily cron.
- Sentiment Score
- The weighted average sentiment across all mentions. Positive = 1.0, Neutral = 0.5, Negative = 0.0. Worth 15 points.
- Topic
- A buying-intent area that groups related prompts together. Each prompt belongs to exactly one topic.
- Visibility Score
- The single 0–100 number summarising your AI presence. Sum of Mention Rate (30) + Recommendation Rate (30) + Position Score (25) + Sentiment (15).
